· 02/19/07 Suntower Systems Will Be Closed Until Saturday February 24th, 2007

Being a family run business it is extremely difficult to get everyone together all at the same time. In fact it has been over five years since our families have all been together in the same place at the same time! So this week, the Marron's, MacNeils', O'Donnelaigh's and O'Docheartaigh's are getting together for a family reunion/celebration. · 07/30/05 Suntower Systems Will Be Closed Until Monday August 7th, 2005

Being a family run business it is extremely difficult to get everyone together all at the same time. For our twentieth anniversary, we're getting everyone together from all four offices for a week-long love-fest in Dublin. Effective October 1, 2004 Suntower Systems is moving down the road to new digs!
Actually, we're not moving at all, just branching out. The Mansion in Queen Anne is just not big enough any more, so our administration is heading down the road just a few blocks to have more space.

· 10/05/01 SAFE 4.2a Update Available!

Simple Accounting for Forms Experts (SAFE) Version 4.2a is now available! This is strictly a maintenance release for SAFE, but there is one featuring that has been hotly desired.

Bug Fixes:

1. The SAFE Inactivity Timer now gives you a 30 second warning message before it automatically boots users out of the program. If you have SAFE open, but have been inactive for 9:30, a window pops up letting you know that, very soon, SAFE will exit. You are given the choice to cancel or to proceed with the Exit.

2. You can now select any e-mail address you like for E-Mailing any report or form in SAFE (unless the form is hard-wired to automatically send to a specific address.)

3. Several mysterious problems with the Query Window were eradicated. Big Thanks to everyone who provided detailed help on this. To those of you who simply sent flames: that's the spirit.

4. Before attempting to print tagging records, in several browses, SAFE would often tell you (incorrectly) that there were no tagged records. Now, before telling this lie, SAFE re-counts the tagged records to save you having to press the green Tag Counter and do it yourself.

The New Feature?

1. In the Sites browse, there is now a 'Location' tab which is visible when selecting a Customer Ship To Address. This allows you to instantly locate a customer's shipping address by Location (bank branch #, for example).

The new on-line installation program has been installed. This allows you to install a sample company along with your base data files. The sample company demonstrates all the new features of SAFE 3.3.

In addition, for additional security, the new Setup program institutes a new password system keyed to the computer on which you have installed SAFE. To install the new software, you will need to e-mail us with the user name and company name from your MS-Windows Registration. (You can get this by right clicking on the My Computer Icon on your Windows desktop). E-Mail this information to Registration!

Suntower Systems is teaming with Cardiff Software, Inc. to provide you with a seamless fax/internet ordering solution for your customers called Teleform Extensions for SAFE. Working together, Teleform and SAFE EE will allow your customers to reorder using forms that you design through their fax machine. These orders will automatically be converted to SAFE sales orders!

Imagine your customers being able to fax over a request for reorder which is AUTOMAGICALLY input into SAFE on your end without you lifting a finger.

You can create custom reorder notices for your clients, print them from SAFE, and your customers simply fax them back to your computer where they are automatically converted to sales orders.

Because you've demanded it! The newest SAFExtension is now ready for delivery. Consolidator let you create a single combined financial statement from data in multiple SAFE EE companies. For those of you managing multiple sets of books, this will save you hours of time with your spreadsheet. Consolidator is $495.00 and can handle any number of remote companies. Custom formatting of consolidated financial statements is $100.00 per format, however there is no charge if you plan to use your existing financial statement formats for consolidated reporting.

To serve distributors who do not need everything that SAFE Enterprise Edition offers (such as multiple warehousing options and sophisticated forms management), Suntower Systems announced today that WinSAFE (the immediate predecessor to Enterprise Edition) will soon live again as SAFE Standard Edition. The new(?) program will incorporate many of the important benefits of SAFE EE, including the same file system and 32 bit Windows structure, but at 1/2 the price. Users of SAFE Standard Edition will be able to upgrade at any time to Enterprise Edition as their needs change.

So stay tuned. SAFE Standard Edition is coming soon!

· 02/05/99 Suntower Systems Off The Air?

Suntower Systems' web site was down for five days  ending today due to the unscrupulous business practices of  Vancouver based ISP NetNation, Inc. Unbelievably, NetNation contacted InterNic (The administrative which governs Internet domain names) and was able to have our domain name www.suntowersystems.com re-assigned to their computers without our permission!  They were able to obtain enough information about our company to do this, simply by one of our employees visiting their site, but taking no other action! We deeply regret any inconvenience this service outage has caused our customers.

Cautionary Note: unfortunately, there is no good way to defend against such attacks at this point in time. Requests to re-assign domain names are processed by InterNic largely on the basis of trust. Basically anyone with an e-mail account claiming to represent your company as an ISP can theoretically do what NetNation did to us. Accountability is very hard to come by in the 'virtual world' of Internet services so your options for recourse are few.  It is to be hoped that some sort of regulatory body will soon be in place to provide protection of one's domain names in the same way as all other property.

In a surprise announcement, one of our favorite vendors, Syquest, today filed for bankruptcy, leaving all kinds of people in the lurch, including those of you who purchased (on our recommendation!) SparqQ removable drives. Syquest's P/R statement pledged to support existing users but we later found out that all their tech support lines and their web site have been shut down!

To be fair to our customers, Suntower Systems will refund the purchase price of any Syquest product purchased from Suntower Systems on or after 09/01/98.

Symbol Technologies and Suntower Systems today announced a partnership to enable enhanced inventory control functionality for Simple Accounting products. This includes the complete hand-held line of scanners made by Symbol, including their unique Palm-Pilot® based hand-held scanning computer.

A Simple Accounting user with a hand-scanner can take counts at a client site, or in your own warehouse in a matter of minutes, or enter products to be release from your warehouse.

The Palm Pilot® scanner even also allows you to record a digital signature from your client upon receipt of delivery and add new users and forms to your contacts and forms catalog.

Back at your office, collected data is automatically transferred to Simple Accounting when the scanner is placed back in it's cradle. And as with all Simple Accounting for Windows transactions, your data files are updated immediately.

Norton-Lambert has now made available an update to their award winning Close-Up 6.5 remote communications package, used by our technical support department and Simple Accounting VISA users. This update was necessary to accomodate newer software packages and versions of the Pentium processor  that could cause conflicts with the Close-Up installation program.

This update solves every known problem we have experienced with Close-Up 6.5 (except for incompatible Windows-based modems--sorry) and is highly recommended if you have had any difficulties installing Close-Up under Windows 95 or 98. Note: This service pack will only work with Close-Up version 6.5.

· 07/01/98 Big Change In State of Washington Sales Tax Regulations!

Effective July 1, 1998, a provision of State of Washington Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill #6470 takes effect which changes the taxation of software sales and services related to software for us here in Seattle. What this means to our customers is simply this:

Starting today, Suntower Systems must collect 8.6% sales tax on all software we sell and on all services related to the software we sell. We must collect this tax regardless of where your business is located, or how it is delivered (on disk or electronically). This includes support services, custom programming and training.

We deeply regret to have to do this. We have strongly opposed these new provisions in the law and will continue to do so. We consider this new tax policy as being anti-business and unfair and we are also feel personally offended that Washington--a state that prides itself on being friendly to software developers, and business in general, would decide to take such a flagrantly grasping action for a piece of the prosperity software has brought to this area. After all, we moved software development here two years ago in large part   because we were assured of the State's 'software-friendly' climate.

A complete test company is now available with the Evaluation Kit for WinSAFE 2.2. This data supplies over 600 transactions including RFQs, Sales Orders, Invoices, Purchase Orders, A/P Bills, Checks, Forms Management Counts & Releases, Contacts, and Financial Statements. This data should be sufficient for evaluators to test the entire program thoroughly with a minimum of effort. The demonstration company allows decision makers to evaluate screens and reports for suitability in a very short time.

Please note that we have not changed our basic philosophy of try before you buy; we still believe that entering your own data is by far the best way to make certain that Simple Accounting is right for your business. We are now offering our complete Simple Accounting for Forms Experts (WinSAFE) program for download in  Evaluation Kit password protected format. Customers and prospects can download this file to obtain the latest program version at any time.

The download is a single file SETUPEX.EXE  from the File Download page. The file is 3.7MB and will take appx. 1 hour to download on a 28.8k modem. After download, simply start SETUPEX to begin the same WinSAFE installation program as from disk.

Password Protection
SETUPEX will ask you for a password when installing WinSAFE. If you do not have a password, you will be unable to install WinSAFE.

Registered Users can obtain their password imediately by contacting Suntower Systems.
(Note that the installation password is different from your Program Access Code.)

When we ask SAFE for DOS customers why they haven’t switched to WinSAFE, over half say the primary reason is because they cannot imagine using generic business forms after having their forms custom designed to their specifications. We hear you loud and clear! So starting with version 2.1 of WinSAFE, you will be able to use custom forms for invoices, checks, acknowledgements, packing slips, etc. just as in SAFE for DOS.

New Capabilities

Actually a lot better, because from now on you’ll be able to add different fonts, sizes, type styles, vertical and horizontal rules, shadows and boxes and graphics to all your forms.

What Took So Long?

Hey this is tricky stuff! Not only was there the problem of providing backward compatibility with SAFE DOS, we had to figure out a way to make our new system support all the possibilities of Windows and make it economical enough to provide for (and manage) the service for our all our customers.

Not for all forms, per each form. We will also charge $75.00 per hour for design changes thereafter.
