Holiday Notice: This is it!
This is it! The
week we've been telling you about for all these months is now here. Are you OK?
Any last minute things? As they say at the altar, 'Speak now or forever hold
your peace!'.
Being a family run business it is extremely difficult to get everyone together all at the same time. For our twentieth anniversary, we're getting everyone together from all four offices for a week-long love-fest in Dublin. And the net effect of this is: we will be closed from business for all except absolute emergencies from Monday April 24th through Sunday April 30th. We will re-open on Monday, May 1st. Again, if there are real emergencies (database crash, earthquake, etc.) there will be someone available to help, but unless it is urgent. please bear with us until we're back.
REMINDER: But if there's something you've forgotten that we neeeeeeeeeeeeeed to know about, you're not totally out of luck. We'll be here (as per usual) until Saturday, April 22 at precisely 3:00PM PST.
Til Next Time! (Monday May
1st) ![]()
Ciaran's
Corner: Everyone Iiiiis A Winnah!
If you recall, in Vol.
VIII, #1 of this august publication, I made an offer to pay our customers
for help in finding and squashing bugs.
Well, very soon, it will be time to pay up.
When?
Why opn our 21st Anniversary, of course. Checks go out May 12th 2006.
How?
It's very important that you let us know
the exact person to whom the check will be issued, or if it is to be generated
in the company name. We will not generate a check unless we have an answer
on this! I see no reason to simply cut a check to a 'company' when it was a
particular individual (or individuals) who actually did the leg work. Which is
to say that I personally, would much prefer to pay a person than a company. Most
of you toil away without enough 'attaboy!' anyway. But regardless, you must use
let us know one way or another. To do this, simply send an e-mail directly to me
at the e-mail under my sig.
How
Much?
All I can tell you right now is that the
grand total is going to come in at about $2,000. The largest check will probably
be $100.
And What About That There Grand Prize?
I did give some real thought to that one.
Since this is supposed to be an individual prize, I decided to not be cheap
about it and give away some Suntower Systems swag (Wow! Another Green T-Shirt!).
So the grand prize is this: The winning participant (the one with the most
verified bug reports) will win an Amazon.Com Gift Certificate in an amount equal
to their payout.
What's The Verdict?
Personally, I enjoyed doing this. We got an
initial flurry of activity which was very helpful---a lot of people came out of
the woodwork! But it quickly dropped away as the novelty wore off. That was
expected; probably most of you thought it wasn't serious or maybe $5 isn't worth
very much these days (Two gallons of gas? One gallon of gas?) My hope is that,
after the payouts actually occur, there will be even more activity next year
which will help make SAFE/8 even better.
As always, I welcome your thoughts
on this program (as well as anything else, of course.) Now, I'm off to 'the old
sod' for a week to try and get some real work done (I'd be all caught up by now
if it weren't for those pesky customers!
) When I
return we'll be rolling out SAFE/8 so I hope to have lots and lots of Q/A to
help get everyone up to speed as smoothly as possible.
Till Next Time!
