One of the benefits of Simple Accounting is its adaptability to meet the needs of most any business. From the beginning SAFE was architected to allow for easy modification by our experienced staff to handle even the most unique situations.
Let's begin by saying that so much can be achieved without custom programming and we suggest that you start under the assumption that, no matter what you're after, SAFE can do it. It's remarkable how many of our customers do not contact us because they think something they need is 'expensive' when in reality, it's something as simple as creating a new Query or changing a Global Option—both of which are totally free of charge (learn more at our on-line help system.)
And then sometimes, it turns out that a little more knowledge is what is necessary, not programming. In which case, we'll recommend training. Again, because Simple Accounting is so deep, even the most experienced users can learn a thing or two during a session that will pay for itself over and over.
If what you are looking for is added functionality, and not just a change in the way Simple Accounting does what it does, then most often what you're after has already been created as a SAFEXtension. These are programs that plug into Simple Accounting and instantly add big new capabilities such as PDF generation, e-mailing, integration with Microsoft Office and on and on. After twenty years of development, there is probably a SAFExtension to do just what you're looking for and, again, you can get it without custom programming.
Ok, so you've discussed what you want with us and together we've determined that there are programming changes needed to reach your goals. Fortunately, SAFE is architected to allow for easy modification by our experienced staff to handle even the most unique situations.
You will be sent a quote before any work is done. This quote will include terms and an estimated completion and installation date. You will be informed immediately upon completion. Unless you specify so ahead of time, installation is handled automatically upon completion.
If there is anything you need do after installation, you will be sent complete instructions before installation.
Custom programming is billed at an hourly rate. This rate may vary depending on the type of work requested because some modifications require specialised skills and are handled by higher level engineers. Your quote will be based on the number of hours of labour. This may be a range if the exact duration cannot be estimated. The billed amount will never exceed that number of hours unless you are notified of this possibility, with a complete explanation of the reason for the change and offered the opportunity to accept or decline. We always bill for the actual work time, even if it turns out to be less than our original estimate.
Custom programming is not classified as 'support' and so may not be applied to any support contract.
If
you receive a credit on a service, you must use that credit towards a like
service. For example, you may not apply a credit for custom reports towards your
support contract or custom programming.
There is a 60 day warranty on repairs, reports and custom programming. Which means that we will correct any flaw in custom programming, data conversion, or other billable services free of charge within sixty days. What this also means is that you have a responsibility to test and verify that the work is done to your satisfaction within sixty days of delivery.
Changes to your operating environment within that time frame voids your warranty. Which means that if we install a new report, for example, and it works fine on your server, running service pack 2 and you install SP6A and the report stops working, you will be billed in order to correct the problem.

Within certain limitations, we guarantee that any customizations will continue to function properly with succeeding versions of SAFE so long as you keep your Remote Support Subscription current. This is not a 'promise' but based on past experience, the only barrier to future compatibility has been a change in the underlying database software (which has occurred twice in twenty years).
